Obituary of John Lee Carroll in 1911

New York Times, February 28, 1911, p. 11. The paper refers to Carroll's contested election as governor of Maryland in 1875 against the nativist "Know Nothing" candidate J. Morrison Harris. This was one of the most bitter campaigns in Maryland history, much of the animosity generated because of Carroll's Catholicism.
